The principal of the Firm, Ben Ling, is a graduate of University
of Alberta and University of British Columbia, Canada. Interned
in Vancouver, B.C. and was registered with the Architectural
Institute of B.C. in 1976.
The practice was established in 1986 and is specialized
in custom designed renovation and new single family houses.
We provide comprehensive architectural services, taking
the project from preliminary conceptual design, construction
documents, construction site review , contract administration,
to client move in stage.
Our design philosophy centres on the principle of "dare
to be ordinary".
We are not married to one particular design style, or use
styles to impress or shock, but rather concentrating on
site particulars, context, neighbourliness, and client interpretations
and requirements for their own homes.
We extract delightfulness out of ordinary materials and
common site conditions, using forms, shapes and light to
manipulate them into a uniqueness that is both appropriate
for the client, the site and the neighbourhood. We also
believe strongly in the importance of landscaping design
in the scheme of the home.
While most of our designs appear "traditional" due to City
zoning requirements and the neighbourhoods they are situated
in the West side of Vancouver, but the articulations of
forms and space are contemporary to suit modern lifestyle.
